Man pleads guilty to shooting Montgomery police dog Bodi

A Montgomery man has pleaded guilty to the shooting of celebrated police dog Bodi and several other charges.

Frank Raven, 20, pleaded guilty Monday to attempted killing of a police dog, first-degree robbery and two charges of attempted assault second-degree.

Raven had robbed a Title Cash on Atlanta Highway on Dec. 14 and fled into a neighborhood behind the store.

Bodi and his handler, Cpl. R.E. Tucker, were dispatched to help locate Raven, and Bodi found him hiding in a shed on Forest Park Drive.

Raven shot at Bodi as he approached, but Bodi continued to advance as Raven fired, police said.

Bodi lost his left eye in the shooting and was retired to live with Tucker. The German shepherd died July 28 at the age of 11 of an unrelated illness.

The Montgomery Police Department named Bodi and Tucker Police Officers of the Year during a ceremony in May.

Raven is set to be sentenced Nov. 14.
